About Local Vet Prices

Local Vet Prices is an independent website that compares what UK vet practices charge, using the standard price lists they must now publish. It is free to use, and it takes no money from vet practices or vet groups.

Why we started it

Our French Bulldog, Lyla, was a 9th birthday present for my son Ethan, who is now 17. We have been lucky: nothing major has gone wrong with her health so far. Even so, what we pay for the same routine things has varied a lot from place to place, and we have rarely known in advance what something ought to cost. Friends have told us what they were charged for bigger treatments, and some of those bills came as a real shock.

We built this site so that anyone can look up what vets charge before they book, with every price traced back to the practice that set it. We cannot tell you what a treatment should cost, because that depends on your pet and your vet. What we can do is show you the published prices side by side, explain what each price covers, and say plainly where our information comes from and what we don't know.

Our vet reviewer

We are looking for an independent vet to review our guides for accuracy. When they join, their name, their Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons registration number and any links to vet businesses will be shown here and on every guide they review. They will check our explanations; they will not rate or recommend practices.

If you are an independent vet and would like to help, please get in touch.

Our promises

  • Every price comes from the practice's own price list, with the source and the date we checked it.
  • No practice can pay to appear, rank higher or be left out.
  • When we don't know something, we say so.

How we work explains our method and funding in full. To get in touch, see Contact.
